CATALOG DESCRIPTION: Introduction to agencies, facilities, and programs playing a role in the prevention of disease and the promotion of health in the community. Special emphasis is placed on the competencies needed for community health professionals and health educators to function in a variety of community and teaching settings.
DESCRIPTION: Introduction to Community Health is an introduction to the field of Community Health and effectively addresses the health issues facing communities in the modern world. The course emphasizes the knowledge and skills needed for a career in Community Health or Health Education. The course examines the breadth of community health information, from the foundations of community health to the health of the people in the United States. The course address the health care delivery system, health care financing, common health problems, and environmental health and safety issues.
TOPICS:
OBJECTIVES: The student will have a concise knowledge of:
1)the history of Public Health, 2)organization of Public Health inside the U.S. and world agencies, 3) the health care delivery system, 4)
major impact areas on Public Health in the U.S. and the world, and 5) introduces the student to various health concerns and disciplines and their related agencies, facilities, and programs in the community with a major emphasis in how these entities can work together.
REQUIREMENTS: 4 exams and major research paper.
