CATALOG DESCRIPTION: Basic concepts, philosophy, career exploration and professional development in home and family careers.
DESCRIPTION: In this course you will be introduced to the future direction for FCS oriented professionals and discover a host of opportunities for students interested in the profession. Throughout the semester, we will concentrate on professional careers in related fields of FCS and focus on developing each student's own personal career path.
TOPICS: Future Directions for FCS Oriented Professions; Your Plan of Education and Professional Development; Internships and Other Pre-professional Employment; Professions Serving Families and Consumer; The Growth and Status of Our Profession; The First Steps of Professional Career Planning; The Career market of Today - What to Expect; Careers in the Arts and Sciences; Careers in Business; Careers in Education and Cooperative Extension; Careers in Human Services; Careers in Government and Public Policy; Developing an Innovative Career Path
OBJECTIVES: 1. Describe the history of Family and Consumer Science.
2. Identify the specialty and subspecialty areas in Family and Consumer Science.
3. Identify the professional organizations relating to Family and Consumer Science.
4. Identify the career options within Family and Consumer Science.
5. Identify and begin to develop behaviors that contribute to successful teaching.
6. Prepare a teaching resource file.
7. Prepare and perform a demonstration.
