Department of Physical Education
The Department of Physical Education is committed to serving a wide range of special interests for the general student body as well as faculty and staff. The well-equipped Hart Physical Education Building includes three gymnasiums, four weight rooms with the very latest in weight training and fitness equipment, a wrestling room, an Olympic size pool, and a dance studio.

Course work has been designed to assist students who desire to minor in teaching physical education, minor in physical education, or to fill General Education requirements. It is possible to fill clusters in coaching.

PE 100 Aerobic Fitness (1:0:2)
Fee:  $4.00
A class to condition and sculpt body.
 
PE 101 Water Aerobics (1:0:2)
Fee:  $4.00
A type of exercise using resistance in water.
 
PE 110 Fencing (1:0:2)
Fee:  $4.00
To introduce the student to the sport of fencing through experience with the French foil and introduction to the ‘Epee.'
 
PE 117 Racquetball Beginning (1:0:2)
Fee:  $4.00
To teach basic skills, fundamentals, and techniques of beginning racquetball. Students must provide their own goggles.
 
PE 118 Wallyball (1:0:2)
Fee:  $4.00
To introduce and instruct students in basic wallyball skills.
 
PE 119 Advanced Racquetball (1:0:2)
Fulfills GE Basic Skills requirement.
Fee:  $4.00
Prerequisite: 1. Must have knowledge of strategies, and fundamentals of racquetball and have ability to play at advanced level. 2. Student will furnish and wear racquetball goggles while playing racquetball.
To teach fundamentals of advanced racquetball. Students must provide their own goggles.

To teach basic strategies and fundamentals of beginning archery.

Prerequisite: Previous archery experience and skills to advanced level.

Prerequisite: Be a beginning volleyball student.
To introduce and instruct students in basic volleyball skills.
 
PE 145 Advanced Volleyball (1:0:2)

Prerequisite: 1. Intermediate volleyball skills and knowledge. 2. Must have offensive and defensive knowledge and ability. 3. Must have played competitive volleyball 4. Be teachable and follow instructions.
This class enables the more experienced volleyball student to refine skills.

To provide a wide variety of skills and techniques of beginning soccer.
 
PE 148 Soccer Advanced (1:0:0)
Prerequisite: 1. Must be experienced soccer players. 2. Must have played competitive soccer.
To enable more advanced soccer students to understand and play the game at a higher tactical level.

To instruct students in basic swimming skills and strokes.
 
PE 162 Swimming Advanced (1:0:2)

Prerequisite: Swim at an intermediate level.

Fulfills GE Basic Skills requirement.
Prerequisite: An existing physical therapy problem.
This class fulfills the G.E. Basic Skills requirement for those who are unable to participate in physical activities.

To teach students to prepare a personal fitness program including nutrition, strength and flexibility.

Prerequisite: Must have a knowledge and skill of basketball, volleyball, tennis, and golf.
To learn skills methods of basketball, volleyball, tennis and golf.
 
PE 365 Secondary Skills Methods II (2:2:0)
Prerequisite: Must have a knowledge and skill of weights, badminton, soccer, and softball.
Secondary skills methods of weights, soccer, softball, and badminton.
 
PE 366 Adaptive Physical Education Special Populations (2:2:0)
Prerequisite: Bio 264 & 265 recommended
To understand how individuals learn and develop and how they can provide opportunities that support their physical, cognitive, social, and emotional development.
 
PE 375 Exercise Physiology (2:3:0)
Prerequisite: It is suggested that you take these classes: BS 264, BS 265, and HS 131
Deals with the functioning of the body during exercise.
 
PE 390 Principles of Coaching (2:2:0)
To expowe students to principles and practices of effective coaching.
