|DESCRIPTION:||Introduction to the methods, philosophy and career opportunities in physics. Includes lab exercises designed to give experience with measurements.|
|CONTENT AND TOPICS:||Introduces students to the field of physics, including its methods, philosophies and career opportunities. It also introduces the Physics major at this institution and the possible career paths it could lead to. Trigonometry, the Scientific method, Philosophy of Science, Career opportunities.|
|GOALS AND OBJECTIVES:||1.Be exposed to some of the range of careers for which the major intends to prepare students well and which career paths for which it may fall short.
2.Be exposed to some of the topics and philosophy of science and some of their consequences.
3.Read, Write, make oral presentaions and work in groups.
4.Be exposed to some of the scientific method, the process of exploration, prediction, observation or measurement, and testing hypothesis.
5.Gain confidence to learn physics.
|REQUIREMENTS:||Lecture, worksheets, student reports, workbook activities, class discussion, guided experiments and exerices as small groups from workbooks and handouts, homework, checkout interviews, exams.|
