DESCRIPTION: This course prepares students to pass the statewide literacy competency test.

CONTENT AND TOPICS: Teaching Methods:
Lecture
Small Group Activities
GOALS AND OBJECTIVES: 1. Understand communication theory, language development, and the role of language in learning.
2. Know and understand language structure, including: phonology, morphology, semantics, syntax, and pragmatics.
3. Understand best teaching practices for literacy instruction of the following areas: emergent literacy, phonologic awareness, and phonics.
