|DESCRIPTION:||Introduces elementary education majors to the fundamentals of Physical and Human Geography.|
|CONTENT AND TOPICS:||This course is designed to introduce elementary education majors to the fundamentals of Physical and Human Geography in preparation for teaching in public school systems. Some basic themes of Physical and Human Geography include mapping, weather, climate, landform study, economic geography, population and demographics, urban geography, cultural geography and regional studies.|
|GOALS AND OBJECTIVES:||Identify and be able to explain key physical geographic terms and concepts.
Acquire (by expericen and research) a better understanding of basic place-name geography.
Explain and apply the principles of the push pull model of migration.
Acquire (by experience and research)a better understanding of world regional geography by completing weekly workbook exercises.
Organize and design and elementary grade level lesson plan on a geographic topic.
Teach your classmates about your lesson plan.
Actively participate in class by making comments and asking questions.
Acquire both an appreciation for geography and a desire to learn more.
|PREREQUISITES:||Non-Elementary Education majors need instructor's approval.|
