Provides the capstone experience for all English Majors. Requires the preparation of a senior portfolio representing the student's best work. (Required for English Majors.) |

Theory relevant to reading, writing and interpreting literature topics specific to the chosen theme or historic period; literary research; cultural contexts of literary works. |
| GOALS AND OBJECTIVES: |
- Synthesize English Major course work.
- Develop a personal philosophy of literature's purpose and evaluation.
- Explore representative literature to apply personal philosophy.
- Apply the particular skills learned in the emphasis area.
- Prepare a comprehensive personal portfolio that represents best work as an English Major.
- Publish a literary journal, Capstone.
- Practice revision with emphasis on developing a mature voice and style.

| REQUIREMENTS: |
In-depth reading of assigned texts. Synthesizing and applying previous English major course work. Preparing a research project customized to the student's major emphasis. Presenting orally a review of research project. 20 pages of critical writing. MLA documentation. |
