GENERAL EDUCATION: This course does not fulfill a General Education requirement.

DESCRIPTION: Word processing and desktop publishing software are used to create business documents suitable for print or electronic presentation. Emphasis is given to design and layout principles and includes strong graphic usage.
TAUGHT: Winter, Summer, Fall
CONTENT AND TOPICS:

  • Use and implementation of word processing

  • Bitmapped and vector graphics software to develop well designed business documents, and web pages.

GOALS AND OBJECTIVES:

  1. Demonstrate and apply layout and design principles in a variety of media.

  2. Demonstrate proper use of emphasis, contrast, balance, alignment, repetition, flow, images, and color in all work.

  3. Demonstrate appropriate use of typography concepts and principles in a variety of
    media.

  4. Implement appropriate file formats for graphics and documents and practice
    integration of media types.

  5. Develop and implement business documents with developed branding symbols.

  6. Demonstrate proficiency using a variety of applications.

  7. Demonstrate proficiency using layering, slicing, shadowing, graphic mapping, and additional enhancements using bitmapping and vector software programs.

  8. Identify and use other resources that can be implemented in a business environment.

REQUIREMENTS: Design projects, chapter quizzes, tests after each group of chapters, and a final exam.
