DESCRIPTION: Focuses on the creation of original writing in fiction, poetry, drama, or creative non-fiction. May be repeated for credit. See schedule for specific offerings.
TAUGHT: Winter and Fall
CONTENT AND TOPICS: Vary according to the genre emphasis.
GOALS AND OBJECTIVES:

  1. Produce works in a specific genre--poetry, fiction, drama, or creative non-fiction.
  2. Focus on the styles and forms of a specific genre.
  3. Learn advanced terminology in a specific genre.
  4. Improve editing skills: grammar, punctuation, and mechanics.
  5. Read a selection of traditional and contemporary works in a specific genre.
  6. Regularly experience peer critiques and workshops.
  7. Give class readings of one's best work.
  8. Submit work to a national publication.
  9. Develop a personal aesthetic.
REQUIREMENTS: Portfolio.
PREREQUISITES: Completion of English 111 or 111C.
