GENERAL EDUCATION: This course does not fulfill a General Education requirement.

DESCRIPTION: Emphasizes basic reading skills: vocabulary building, comprehension, and fluency.
TAUGHT: Winter, Summer, and Fall
CONTENT AND TOPICS: Word attack; vocabulary building; comprehension: distinctions among topics, main ideas, and details; and oral reading.
GOALS AND OBJECTIVES:

  1. Master reading and comprehension skills equivalent to the 10th grade.
  2. Increase oral reading fluency.
REQUIREMENTS: A score of 10 or higher on the Woodcock Reading Mastery Test, a minimum of 30 hours of one-on-one tutoring and 30 hours of homework, reading 200 pages of fiction, a lab portfolio and reading journal.
PREREQUISITES: ACT composite score 17 or below and/or instructor referral.
