DESCRIPTION: Emphasizes skills for textbook study and comprehension. (Individual tutoring available.)
TAUGHT: Winter, Summer, and Fall
CONTENT AND TOPICS: Strategies for marking texts, discerning organizational patterns, and distinguishing between key points and support; vocabulary building; critical thinking; inference and problem solving; mapping; retention.
GOALS AND OBJECTIVES:

  1. Read texts with engagement and understanding.
  2. Apply text concepts to personal experience, previously learned knowledge, and practical situations.
  3. Retain text information.
REQUIREMENTS: A score of 12.9 or higher on the Woodcock Reading Mastery Test; a lab portfolio and reading journal; 15 hours of tutoring/homework for .5 credit; 30 hours of tutoring /homework for 1 credit; 60 hours of tutoring/homework for 2 credits. (An A grade requires completion of Reading Lab Teaching Assignment.)
