GENERAL EDUCATION: This course fulfills a General Education - Reading & Writing requirement.

DESCRIPTION: Equivalent to English 316 but taught in a computer classroom. Keyboarding skill is required. (Required for Computer Engineering, Computer Science and Biology majors.)
TAUGHT: Winter, Summer, and Fall
CONTENT AND TOPICS: All aspects of the writing process: prewriting, drafting, responding, revising, editing; audience awareness; collaborative writing; research and documentation.
GOALS AND OBJECTIVES:

  1. Relate writing strategies to other subject areas and to real-life situations.
  2. Apply advanced writing skills and research techniques to produce effective professional documents for various academic disciplines and anticipated careers.
  3. Generate and apply knowledge according to the methods of inquiry and standards of evidence used in the discipline.
  4. Develop and demonstrate skills in logic, analysis, and critical thinking.
  5. Evaluate research sources for their accuracy, comprehensiveness, and usefulness.
  6. Accurately interpret, summarize, and integrate information from traditional and electronic sources into an original document.
  7. Design a document using appropriate format, page layout, and visuals.
  8. Apply elements of effective writings, such as adapting to audience and purpose; focusing, organizing and developing ideas; achieving coherence; and editing.
REQUIREMENTS: 30 pages of edited and documented prose.
PREREQUISITES: Completion of English 111 or 111C and 22 credits or sophomore standing.
