Shakespeare's life and times; the conventions of drama and the Elizabethan theater; application of critical theory to Shakespeare's work; Shakespeare's genre (tragedy, comedy, history, romance, and poetry); Shakespeare's contribution to and use of language; writing analytical papers. |
| GOALS AND OBJECTIVES: |
- Understand and appreciate literature as a valuable source of intellectual, emotional, and aesthetic experience reflecting and enriching the human experience.
- Read literature within such contexts as nationality, historical period, ethnicity, and culture.
- Apply appropriate critical theories to literary texts.
- Continue developing library skills for literary research and document formal writing according to MLA guidelines.
- Integrate secondary texts into written work.

Extensive reading, discussion, and oral presentations. Interpretive, analytical, and/or evaluative papers totaling 15 pages. MLA documentation. |
