GENERAL EDUCATION: This course does not fulfill a General Education requirement.

DESCRIPTION: Equivalent to English 495 but taught in a computer classroom. Keyboarding skill is required.
TAUGHT: No regular offering.
CONTENT AND TOPICS: Theory relevant to reading, writing and interpreting literature topics specific to the chosen theme or historical period; literary research; cultural contexts of literary works.
GOALS AND OBJECTIVES:

  1. Synthesize English Major course work.
  2. Develop a personal philosophy of literature's purpose and evaluation.
  3. Explore representative literature to apply personal philosophy.
  4. Apply the particular skills learned in the emphasis area.
  5. Prepare a comprehensive personal portfolio that represents best work as an English Major.
  6. Publish a literary journal, Capstone.
  7. Practice revision with emphasis on developing a mature voice and style.
REQUIREMENTS: In-depth reading of assigned texts. Synthesizing and applying previous English major course work. Preparing a research project customized to the student's major emphasis. Presenting orally a review of research projects. 20 pages of critical writing. MLA documentation.
