GENERAL EDUCATION: This course does not fulfill a General Education requirement.

DESCRIPTION: Designed for health professional students i.e. athletic trainers, coaches, health and physical educators, physical therapists, EMT's and premedical students for recognition, evaluation, and care of injuries. Techniques in prevention, and rehabilitation of injuries will be presented.

CONTENT AND TOPICS:
GOALS AND OBJECTIVES: The students will: 1) demonstrate a knowledge of the prefixes, suffixes, and terms associated with sports medicine, 2) recognize the sports medicine team, 3) relate how to organize a sports health care plan, 4) demonstrate awareness of legal liability and insurance requirements, 5) issue and fit sports equipment, 6) use therapeutic modalities correctly and safely, 7) identify protocol for effective rehabilitation, 8) demonstrate an awareness of functional anatomy and physiology, 9) become aware of environmental issues and concerns, 10) evaluate injuries and perform appropriate care techniques
