GENERAL EDUCATION: This course does not fulfill a General Education requirement.

DESCRIPTION: Must declare Health Education as a major or minor and have completed the majority of freshman and sophomore core work. This class is designed to inform the future teacher about the comprehensive health education environment including both the school and the community health programs and procedures. The class also prepares students for recognizing and dealing with "at risk" students. Introduction to needs assessment, program development, finances evaluation, and implementation of school health programs will be covered.

CONTENT AND TOPICS:
GOALS AND OBJECTIVES: Each student will: 1) develop an understanding of a comprehensive health education program, 2) demonstrate a plan for enhancing all areas of a comprehensive school health program K through 12, 3) recognize and understand the federal and state laws governing health concerns within the school environment, 4) recognize the purpose and need for keeping health records throughout the student's participation, 5) develop procedures and policies for identifying and correcting "at risk" environmental and behaviors of students, 6) relate to and demonstrate techniques for working in groups for educational outcomes.
