GENERAL EDUCATION: This course fulfills a General Education - Basic Skills requirement.

DESCRIPTION: This Personal Health and Wellness course is designed to provide scientific health information which promotes desirable attitudes and behavior toward health and wellness. This course includes lecture and outside of class activities. This class satisfies the Basic Skills Option requirement.
TAUGHT: Fall, Winter, Summer
CONTENT AND TOPICS: This class covers the five aspects of total wellness: emotional, mental, physical, social, and spiritual health and how they are interconnected to make us what we are.
GOALS AND OBJECTIVES: Each student will: 1) gain an understanding of wellness, 2) develop life time wellness & fitness activities, 3) understand the components of physical fitness, 4) understand emotional & stress management, 5) understand components of substance use and abuse risk factors, 6) understand cause of disease, 7) become aware of consumer health issues, 8) develop an understanding of human sexuality, 9) gain an appreciation for environmental health.
REQUIREMENTS: Tests covering chapters in the textbook and the wellness exam. The Wellness Exam will include the following: a. Aerobic test, b. Skinfold test, c. Blood pressure test, d. Resting pulse rate test, e. Blood test (optional). There will also be out of class exercise requirements.
