DESCRIPTION: A basic consumer awareness and career exploration class for those wanting to know more about their car and the careers that are available in the automotive field. Information is through lectures and demonstrations. Owning a vehicle is not a requirement.
TAUGHT: Fall, Winter, and Summer
CONTENT AND TOPICS: A consumer awareness class covering the various systems of the automobile and some vehicle maintenance. A few vehicle maintenance procedures, such as lube, oil and filter changing, are part of the class experience. This elective course also teaches how to: avoid rip-off repairs, purchase a new or used automobile, obtain financing and insurance.
GOALS AND OBJECTIVES: Understand the basic operating principles of many of the systems found on today's cars such as: brakes, starting, charging, ignition system, fuel system, transmissions, and air conditioning. Learn how to save thousands of dollars, in the span of a lifetime, by learning how to perform some basic vehicle maintenance. Be more informed when purchasing a new or used vehicle.
REQUIREMENTS: Students will be required to attend lectures and demonstrations, participate in class discussions, complete textbook assignments, observe multi-media presentations and memorize automotive parts. Learning assessment will consist of worksheets and tests.
