Micro-Applications for Business
MICRO APPLIC

GENERAL EDUCATION: This course fulfills a General Education - Basic Skills requirement.

DESCRIPTION: Introduction to the use of microcomputers in business. Emphasis is on learning how to use spreadsheet and database applications to solve business problems.
TAUGHT: Winter, Summer, Fall
CONTENT AND TOPICS:

  • Development and implementation of Microsoft Excel spreadsheets

  • Development and implementation of Microsoft Access databases

  • Integration of these applications with word processing and world wide web documents

GOALS AND OBJECTIVES:

  1. Develop experience and skills in using spreadsheets.

  2. Implement built-in functions as well as build formulas to solve business problems.

  3. Create and modify charts and pivot tables.

  4. Integrate with other applications.

  5. Demonstrate skill and knowledge in using a Database Management System including creating tables, queries, forms, and reports.

REQUIREMENTS: Complete case problems at the end of each tutorial, take quizzes, tests, and the final exam using a simulation testing package.
PREREQUISITES: Basic computer literacy including the use of a word processor and file management. Be able to type at least 35 words a minute.
