| CONTENT AND TOPICS: | The design profession; the origins and evolution of design; the basic theories of design; color and light; the design process; programming interior spaces; lifestyle, personality and style theories; lighting for interiors; materials; architectural systems and finishes; interior components; furniture, furnishings and equipment. |

| GOALS AND OBJECTIVES: | 1. To introduce the student to the qualifications and professional practices of the interior designer and related design professionals. 2. To provide a fundamental background in the principles and elements of design, proxemics, human factors, universal design, lifestyle and personality theories. 3. To familiarize the student with the design process and programming. 4. To cultivate an understanding of architectural systems, interior components, building materials, interior finishes, lighting, furniture, furnishings and equipment. 5. To introduce the student to research and concept recognition through application in small design assignments. 6. To promote professional presentation skills in written and graphic formats. |
