| DESCRIPTION: |
Semester one of a two-semester sequence of learning to apply principles of harmonic progression to keyboard style, focusing on folksong materials and excerpts from classics and pop songs. |

| CONTENT AND TOPICS: |
Mostly diatonic harmony in both major and minor keys,incorporating all the chords within the major and minor scales; various types of keyboard techniques, such as Alberti bass—making keyboard style realizations of block harmonies |
| GOALS AND OBJECTIVES: |
Demonstrate knowledge of keyboard harmony by placing chords in acceptable spacing, with appropriate keyboard style motivations, and demonstrating correct progression principles.

| REQUIREMENTS: |
The class meets twice weekly. Grade is determined by daily or weekly assignments. No unit or semester tests.

| PREREQUISITES: |
Students should have passed the piano proficiency test before registering for class and should have taken a semester of music theory (Music 196) and ear training (Music 194). |
