|DESCRIPTION:||A course designed to prepare music majors to teach the basics of string playing to elementary and secondary beginning through intermediate students. Focus will be on violin, viola, cello and bass.|
|CONTENT AND TOPICS:||Current and historical approaches to string playing; a study of group and solo method books; peer tutoring and discovery teaching techniques; classroom management.|
|GOALS AND OBJECTIVES:||1. Demonstrate basic playing skills as well as explain the process of its production.
2. Analyze a variety of string method publications and supplementary teaching materials.
3. Develop diagnostic and problem solving skill.
|REQUIREMENTS:||Primarily in-class study with minimal outside assignments.|
