GENERAL EDUCATION: This course does not fulfill a General Education requirement.

DESCRIPTION: A course designed to prepare music majors to teach the basics of string playing to elementary and secondary beginning through intermediate students. Focus will be on violin, viola, cello and bass.
TAUGHT: Fall
CONTENT AND TOPICS: Current and historical approaches to string playing; a study of group and solo method books; peer tutoring and discovery teaching techniques; classroom management.
GOALS AND OBJECTIVES: 1. Demonstrate basic playing skills as well as explain the process of its production.
2. Analyze a variety of string method publications and supplementary teaching materials.
3. Develop diagnostic and problem solving skill.
REQUIREMENTS: Primarily in-class study with minimal outside assignments.
