| DESCRIPTION: |
A one-semester course examining the internal workings of the vocal mechanism, their effect on vocal production, the mechanics of efficient vocal production, the mechanics of vocal development, and effective correction of vocal production faults. This class is a prerequisite to the applied vocal internship required of BMA majors in their senior year. |

| CONTENT AND TOPICS: |
Students will learn the inter-related internal workings of the vocal apparatus, and apply that knowledge to determining how to correct vocal problems and foster vocal growth. Vocal development processes and common vocal problems will be examined. |
| GOALS AND OBJECTIVES: |
Give students the necessary background knowledge to effectively and intelligently help others (and themselves) improve their vocal production in both private studio and classroom (choir) teaching. |
| REQUIREMENTS: |
One long paper or several short papers will be required, on topics such as the sequential development of vocal skill, or common vocal faults and how to correct them. There will be an objective test on vocal function. |

Music 155 |
| OTHER: |
This class is required of all vocal music majors, whether they are following the music education or the integrated track. It is recomended that students take Music 466 before 404. |
