| DESCRIPTION: | The Jazz Lab Band is a large jazz ensemble open, by audition, to music majors and non-majors. A full curriculum is provided to help students learn the fundamentals of jazz. The group meets twice weekly and performs each semester. | ||

| CONTENT AND TOPICS: | Jazz styles, big band performance practices, advanced improvisation, articulation, sound concepts, listening skills, ensemble rehearsal techniques, who’s who, listening skills, transcription, historic considerations, practice habits, communication, and other jazz fundamentals. | ||
| GOALS AND OBJECTIVES: | 1. Have an enjoyable experience. 2. Have an opportunity for the development of fundamental jazz skills. 3. Have a practicum experience. |

| REQUIREMENTS: | Private practice (at least 30 minutes a day) is required and scholarship recipients must take private lessons. Those on solo chairs are encouraged to take Combo and/or Jazz Improvisation. Attendance at rehearsals and performances. | ||

| OTHER: | It is highly recommended that all students interested in jazz take Music 146 A & B: Jazz Improvisation 1 and 2. | ||
