GENERAL EDUCATION: This course does not fulfill a General Education requirement.

DESCRIPTION: Introductory voice production class for students not majoring in voice. Required as a prerequisite for taking private non-major vocal lessons. One hour per week class instruction, plus twelve one-hour four-person semi-private lessons.
TAUGHT: Fall, Winter, Summer
CONTENT AND TOPICS:
GOALS AND OBJECTIVES: 1. Understand and correctly apply the principles of body alignment and breathing.
2. Implement correct breathing, good phrasing, and legato singing.
3. Identify registers in voices and obtain a more perceptive ear while listening to others sing.

4. Understand and apply the principles of good vowel and consonant usage.

5. Recognize and correct the four common vocal faults.
REQUIREMENTS: Attendance and class participation, quizzes, tests, outside study and practice.
PREREQUISITES: Some background in music and music reading would be helpful, not absolutely necessary.
