GENERAL EDUCATION: This course does not fulfill a General Education requirement.

DESCRIPTION: Class Piano Instruction - Level 2 is a sequel course to Music 105, as well as a prerequisite for Music 108 (Class Piano Instruction - Level 3). The course is designed for the beginning piano student who has the equivalent background to play from "Hymns Made Easy." At the end of the class students will be able to play hymns from the "Simplified Hymn Book" (tan, hard-cover book). If you can play the standard hymns you should take M158A (Private piano lessons for non-piano majors) (required fee).

CONTENT AND TOPICS: Class activities are designed to instruct and clarify concepts in preparation for performance and written examinations.
GOALS AND OBJECTIVES: 1. Improve fingering techniques.
2. Apply proper pedaling techniques.
3. Develop effective practice habits.
4. Develop basic music theory through chords, scales, and key signatures.
5. Recognize and apply correct interpretive cues to performance.
REQUIREMENTS: Varies according to instructor. Generally there are weekly performing examinations with some written examinations. Practicing and attendance are required.
PREREQUISITES: Music 105 (Class Piano Instruction - Level 1) or equivalent piano background. Students should be able to play hymns from "Hymns Made Easy."
