This class is designed to expose the students to the principles and practices of effective coaching without addressing any particular sport. The focus is on the coach as a person who must deal with many tasks, responsibilities, and problems that arise in the coaching profession.
GOALS AND OBJECTIVES: The student will:
1. Develop a sound coaching philosophy
2. Understand the student athlete and techniques of team leadership and interaction
3. Understand various coaching responsibilities
4. Explore player preparation
5. Become aware of coaching associations, literature and other resources
6. Develop a grasp of individual strengths and weaknesses
REQUIREMENTS: Student will:
1. Learn through lecture, discussion, panel, guest speaker, videos, and Internet exploration
2. Pass exams
3. Submit written reports and portfolios as assigned
4. Attend class and participate
