GENERAL EDUCATION: This course does not fulfill a General Education requirement.

DESCRIPTION: To provide students with a competitive, structured weight training program. Student must be able to power clean and rack jerk 135 pounds, bench press 165 pounds, and dead lit 225 pounds.
TAUGHT: Winter, Summer, Fall
CONTENT AND TOPICS: This is a competitive, structured class which should be regarded as a competitive sport that is coached in detail. It is a practical training experience with overhead weight lifts (the snatch, clean, and jerk). Train with Olympic and overhead power lifts to build explosive strength. Student has a choice between Olympic Lifting emphasis or Power Lifting emphasis.
GOALS AND OBJECTIVES: 1. Learn and properly execute competitive Olympic and power lifts
2. Learn how to periodize a strength program
3. Be trained personally by a strength coach
4. Learn how to train "safely" in weight room
5. Learn how to successfully integrate many types of lifts into a training program
REQUIREMENTS: 1. Workouts will be posted and followed in order
2. Students will train three class days per week
3. Lifting will be done during class time frame with instructor
4. Safety practices will be followed
5. Horseplay, loud mouths nor unclean language will not be tolerated
PREREQUISITES: Student must be able to power clean and rack jerk 135 lbs, be able to bench press 165 lbs, and dead lift 225 lbs.
OTHER: Student must wear BYU-I approved clothing.
