GENERAL EDUCATION: This course does not fulfill a General Education requirement.

DESCRIPTION: Organization and administrative skills necessary for the planning and development of recreation programs in commercial, public, and non-profit settings. Theoretical concepts with a practical application emphasis.
TAUGHT: Winter, Fall
CONTENT AND TOPICS: RL 320 is designed to equip students with a variety of program planning methodologies and skills. Emphasis will be placed on the planning, organization, implementation, evaluation, and summary of recreation programs. Theories and philosophies will be applied in an experiential setting. Field work is required.

GOALS AND OBJECTIVES: 1. Understand the history and development of the Leisure Services profession as well as contemporary professional issues and how they impact delivery of services.
2. Articulate a personal and professional philosophy regarding the provision of recreation and leisure services while understanding diverse views.
3. Develop group mission and program objectives and apply them to leisure and recreation programs.
4. Demonstrate an understanding of the relationships between leisure and recreation, the benefits and values sought by customers, and the factors that influence customer decision making.
5. Conduct a programming needs analysis to determine potential areas of services.
6. Plan, implement and evaluate a range of leisure/recreation services in a variety of programming areas and formats.
7. Demonstrate the use of effective program promotional tools.
8. Develop a practical and realistic budget for a leisure and recreation program; and select or create an appropriate evaluation instrument that can provide relevant data about the program.
