GENERAL EDUCATION: This course does not fulfill a General Education requirement.

DESCRIPTION: An introductory course designed to teach prospective high school drama teachers and aspiring design students the fundamentals of lighting design. Course content will include philosophies of lighting design, color in lighting and lighting controls. Students will be required to read and design from at least four scripts. The final project will be practical and comprehensive.
TAUGHT: Fall 2004
CONTENT AND TOPICS: Topics will include controls by the lighting designer, research, rendering with light and drafting.
GOALS AND OBJECTIVES: Gain a working knowledge of the fundamentals of lighting design and will begin to develop an aesthetic. Think abstractly in preparation to mounting high school productions or continuing on in studies as lighting designers.
REQUIREMENTS: Course attendance is mandatory. The final project, a fully drafted lighting design with its accompanying paperwork will account for 65% of the grade. Other assignments will account for the remainder of the grade.
PREREQUISITES: Credit only. TA 219: Beginning Technical Theatre or consent of instructor.
OTHER: Basic drafting supplies will need to be acquired from a list provided by the instructor.
