Innovative Business Lab - Leadership

GENERAL EDUCATION: This course does not fulfill a General Education requirement.

DESCRIPTION: A senior capstone experience wherein students act in leadership roles in student-run companies using innovative business models to address marketplace needs or work with faculty in planning major College of Business and Commuication events. Application required. See the Department of Business Management secretary.

Note: B 499C students are the officers of the Innovative Business Lab organization and typically are selected to be officers because they comlpeted B 450 in an above-average manner. B 450 Students are the "workers" of the Innovative Business Lab organizations.

TAUGHT: Winter, Summer, Fall
CONTENT AND TOPICS: Student leaders in the student-run businesses plan, organize, lead and control the marketing, finance and operations of an actual ongoing businesses. Business models pursued will include utilization of the internet, technology, or innovative business practices to increase productivity and customer satisfaction.

Students participating in Event Management will act in leadership roles to plan, organize and implement major College of Business and Communication events including Executive Seminar, Business Summit, Entrepreneur Lecture Series, Entrepreneur Conference and Summer Summit. Student leaders select speakers, schedule rooms, promote events, and make all necessary arrangements for these events, including hosting and media relations.
GOALS AND OBJECTIVES: Gain exerpeince in determining and readjusting the strategy of an ongoing organization.

Gain experience in managing the various functions and processes of an ongoing organization.

Exercise human relations skills necessary to enhance the perofrmance of team members.

Gain exerpience in evaluating the performance of "employees".

Gain a better appreciateion and understanding of the importance of stewardship and accountability.
REQUIREMENTS: Instructor evaluation, strategic planning, peer performance evaluation.
PREREQUISITES: B 450
