DESCRIPTION: Preparing, creating and teaching young children the curriculum areas of Language Arts, Math, Art, Science, Music, Movement Education, and Social Studies. Creativity and competence in the curriculum areas are stressed.

CONTENT AND TOPICS: 1. Developmentally Appropriate Practices
2. Quality environments for children, teachers, and families
3. The value of play
4. Selecting play toys and equipment
5. Preschool curriculum development
6. Developmental issues and planning methods for different curriculum areas
7. Preschool snack selection and preparation
8. Transitions between activity periods
GOALS AND OBJECTIVES: Students will learn the scope of the major areas of curriculum in early childhood education, focusing specifically on the preschool years. They will develop basic philosophy, skills, and materials needed to provide appropriate experiences for young children that will foster their social, emotional, physical, and cognitive development.

PREREQUISITES: PPE majors should take ECSE 100 and CHILD 210 before enrolling in this course.
