|DESCRIPTION:||Exploration of the cultural expectations and socialization of males and females. Scholarly, spiritual and societal values of masculinity and femininity as illustrated within both family and the culture.|
|CONTENT AND TOPICS:||Beating up the Family, Gender Socialization, Boys will be Boys, Sugar and Spice, Sexual Paradigms, Some Issues for Men, the Politics of Gender, Feminine Depression, Feminine Beauty, Secular Gender, Gender Divisions, Gender in the Scriptures, Gender Superiority, Same Gender Attraction, Priesthood Lesson|
|GOALS AND OBJECTIVES:||Students taking this class will be exposed to the popular paradigms of the culture and how they are often at odds with the revealed Word and Sprit of God found in the scriptures and writings of the prophets. The family proclamation will be a foundational document of measuring the things of God against the man made philosophies and traditions of the world. Special attention will directed in understanding the socialization processes ad institutions that determine feminine and masculine values for both females and males. The thrust of the class will be to explore this simple dilemma: Given that our eternal natures are gender oriented ... are the gender roles taught by the society and culture consistent with our divine and Godly origins as off spring of an Eternal Father and Mother.
|REQUIREMENTS:||Students will be required to attend classes, turn in Book Reviews, Website Lesson Reviews,a Journal and a Paper.
