Opportunities for Nursing Students
Welcome to BYU-Idaho's Department of Nursing. The Department of Nursing provides students with several program options such as the ASN Program, RN to BSN Program, Cluster courses for Non-Nursing Majors, and the Trans-cultural Programs to international locations.

ASN Program
The Department of nursing offers the student a two year program that has been designed to prepare the graduate to successfully complete the professional nurse board examination (NCLEX-RN).
There are four options available to the student:
Traditional Track:
The traditional track is for students that have fewer than 30 college credits and have been accepted on the BYU-Idaho fall/winter track.
Alternate Track:
The Alternate track is for students that have over 30 college credits and have been accepted to any BYU-Idaho track. The Alternate track is another option for a student to obtain their Associate of Science in Nursing Degree. Class time and clinical are in the evenings and on Saturday's. ALL general education course work, except for Bio 386 - Pharmacology, must be completed by the end of the winter semester of the school the student is attending, prior to starting in the fall. Transcultural Track:
One transcultural experience may be offered each year. A select number of students participate. Application for the program occurs during the Fall Semester of the Freshman year. Details pertaining to the specific experience, including course sequence recommendations are available to students on request. This track is currently on hold. Please contact the Department of Nursing for more information.

Early Graduation Track:
The Early Graduation Track accommodates students needing, or desiring, to graduate one semester early. Students complete freshman year, all Summer Terms between the Freshman and Sophomore Years and Fall semester of the Sophomore year. These students finish in December, but are encouraged to return in April for the Pinning Ceremony. Freshman students must have a 3.0 G.P.A. in all courses to be considered for this program. Once accepted in the ASN Nursing Program, a student can apply for the Early Graduation Track. The Early Graduation track is not an option for the Alternate Track nursing students.
RN to BSN Program
The Baccalaureate Completion Nursing Program at BYU-Idaho is designed for the individual with a current license as a Registered Nurse, and who desires to expand employment opportunities and enhance nursing knowledge. This nursing program can be completed in three full-time semesters. The RN to BSN program is offered on campus and/or distance education through Continuing Education.
The RN to BSN student has the option to begin in either the fall, winter, or summer semester. Applications are accepted monthly but must indicate which semester the student desires to begin. See RN to BSN application for more details on the application process. Applications must be received before April 1, 2006 to be eligible to start summer semester which begins May 8, 2006.
Traditional Track:
This program can be completed in three full time semesters on campus. Additionally, the last 15 credit hours for the baccalaureate degree must be completed in residency.

Distance Education Track:
The BYU-Idaho Nursing department is offering a RN to BSN program through distance education utilizing e-mail, web sites/Blackboard program and ground mail (videos, cassettes, or paper). Course requirements are the same as the on-campus RN to BSN Program. All Nursing courses are available through BYU-Idaho. The required general education courses can be taken on campus or online through BYU-Idaho Continuing Education or at other colleges/universities. Do to the rapid growth of the RN to BSN Distance Education Track, starting fall 2006 semester, students admitted to the program will be admitted in the order of Ricks College/BYU-Idaho ASN graduates followed by ASN graduates from other Colleges or Universities. Admittance for non Ricks/BYU-Idaho alumni will be contingent upon seat availability.

Transcultural Track:
The transcultural track may be offered to complete clinical hours for community and/or leadership courses. Transcultural opportunities are offered when experiences become available. Contact the Department of Nursing or call (208) 496-1385 for more information.
