| CATALOG DESCRIPTION: | Prepares future occupational educators to teach school and career options to secondary students. | ||
| DESCRIPTION: | This course is an advanced study of coordinated work experience in the educational setting and implementation of school-to-work initiatives. The focus of the course will be to provide the skills and knowledge needed for the professional teacher to be competent in creating and maintaining a cooperative education or school-to-work system. This course will examine current practices here in Idaho and will look at other exemplary programs around the nation and around the world. | ||
| TOPICS: | Work-based learning in occupational education; Work-based learning at the secondary level; Foundations of quality work-based learning; Work-based learning activity planning; Work-based learning implementation and management; Legal considerations of work-based learning; College-level work-based learning; Work-based competencies; Advisory Committees; Student Organizations | ||
| OBJECTIVES: | You should be able to demonstrate in your participation, case studies, presentations and exams: 1. Establish guidelines for a STW program. 2. Manage the students enrolled in a STW program. 3. Secure and retain training stations. 4. Develop the abilities of the on-the-job instructors. 5. Market the STW program to the business and educational community. 6. Develop training plans for students. 7. Understand the economics and social factors associated with school-to-work initiatives. 8. Evaluate the STW programs. 9. Describe what STW is nationally and in Idaho. 10. Understand Federal legislation regarding child employment. |
