| CATALOG DESCRIPTION: | A lecture class in art appreciation surveying the concepts, techniques, materials and history of the visual arts. | ||
| DESCRIPTION: | Reading assignments from the text will be given. Classes will include lectures, slide and film presentations and informal discussions. Quizzes will be given on a weekly basis covering lecture and reading. Written journal of assignments. Comprehensive final exam. | ||
| TOPICS: | Segments of study will include the vocabulary of art, purposes and functions of art, criticism, various media and techniques in two and three dimensional art work, and a brief historical overview. | ||
| OBJECTIVES: | Give students a basic understanding and appreciation of the visual arts. Help them develop the skills, knowledge and desire necessary to enjoy the visual language of art in a meaningful way. Basic aesthetic philosophy and criticism is discussed and applied to works of art. | ||
