Emphasizes writing proficiency by focusing on the writing process, collaborative writing, and techniques for teaching writing in elementary school. (Required for Elementary Education majors.) |

Effective writing processes; rhetorical modes; academic research writing; writing to get a job; strategies for teaching writing to elementary-age students; writing teacher reports. |
| GOALS AND OBJECTIVES: |
- Relate writing strategies to other subject areas and to real-life situations.
- Apply advanced writing skills and research techniques to produce effective professional documents for various academic disciplines and anticipated careers.
- Generate and apply knowledge according to the methods of inquiry and standards of evidence used in the discipline.
- Develop and demonstrate skills in logic, analysis, and critical thinking.
- Evaluate research sources for their accuracy, comprehensiveness, and usefulness.
- Accurately interpret, summarize, and integrate information from traditional and electronic sources into an original document.
- Design a document using appropriate format, page layout, and visuals.
- Apply elements of effective writings, such as adapting to audience and purpose; focusing, organizing and developing ideas; achieving coherence; and editing.

| REQUIREMENTS: |
30 pages of edited and documented prose. |
| PREREQUISITES: |
Elementary Education major, English 111 or 111C, and at least 22 credit hours or sophomore standing. |
