| CONTENT AND TOPICS: | The class covers story structure, including writing effective lead sentences. Students also write news stories from a variety of topics, including feature articles. Analysis of audience, purpose, and context; selection and use of appropriate voice, structure and techniques for effective written communication for mass audiences and other applications. | ||
| GOALS AND OBJECTIVES: | Understand the role of the media in a free society. Write for audience. Improve writing clarity, precision, and style. Demonstrate competency in lead writing, inverted pyramid structure writing and other standard news writing structures. Interview effectively. Develop a dedication to accuracy through reporting and research. Understand basic legal, ethical considerations for media writers. Produce a representative profile project worthy of publication. | ||
