| DESCRIPTION: |
In this course, students will study the microorganisms (especially bacteria and viruses), their metabolism and requirements for growth, the methods used to grow and study them, the disease processes caused by them, methods used to control their growth, and the immune response to infection and disease. |

| CONTENT AND TOPICS: |
Microbial diversity, microscopy, structure and function of prokaryotic and eukaryotic cells, microbial metabolism, growth and culture, principles of control, viruses, disease process, epidemiology, the immune response, immune disorders, and antimicrobial drugs |
| GOALS AND OBJECTIVES: |
Through this course, students will gain an understanding and appreciation of the microbial world and its effects on humans. This knowledge will help students maintain their own health and form a foundation for their work in health professions. |
