| DESCRIPTION: | Basic ecological principles in relationship to environmental issues. The environmental issues range from local to global and include direct and indirect human impact on ecosystems. This class includes a 2 hour lab to allow hands on understanding of what is covered in lecture. | ||

| CONTENT AND TOPICS: | Scientific methods, history of environmentalism, ecosystem structure and function, community interactions, population growth, deforestation, loss of biodiversity, air quality issues, pollution, pesticides, and environmental economics. | ||
| GOALS AND OBJECTIVES: | The prime objective of this class is to get the students to a point where they can critically analyze a situation and make an informed decision based on the facts available. The hope is that students will rely less on emotion and more on available information to make choices. | ||
| REQUIREMENTS: | Quizzes and exams, critical thinking papers, group research paper and in class participation, as well as lab reports and a lab journal are required. | ||
