| DESCRIPTION: | Introduction to digital electronics. Number systems, truth tables, Boolean algebra, and Karnaugh maps. Covers soldering and basic construction skills. Students must design and build a project that uses sequential logic and a programmable logic device. Laboratory exercises are included. | ||

| CONTENT AND TOPICS: | Number systems, truth tables, Boolean algebra, and Karnaugh maps. Combinational logic circuits: SSI devices (AND, OR, NAND, NOR, XOR gates), and MSI devices (MUX, DX, ALU), logic devices. Sequential logic circuits: flip-flops, counters and shift registers. Also covers basic circuit construction skills. | ||
| GOALS AND OBJECTIVES: | 1. Become familiar with digital electronics, number systems, truth tables, Boolean algebra, and Karnaugh maps, combinational logic circuits, SSI devices (AND/OR, NAND, etc) and MSA devices (MUX, DX, ALU, etc); 2. Understand sequential logic circuits, flip flops, counters, and shift registers, state machine design, and analysis; 3. Design and build a project that uses sequential logic and programmable logic device; 4. Present a project and be evaluated; 5. participate in appropriate laboratory exercises; 6. Gain soldering and basic construction skills. |
