| DIVISION: | PHYSICAL SCIENCE & ENGINEERING | ||
| DEPARTMENT: | ELECTRICAL & COMPUTER ENGINEERING | ||
| GENERAL EDUCATION: | This course does not fulfill a General Education requirement. | ||
| DESCRIPTION: | Microprocessor architecture and operation. Applications of state machines, ROM-controllers, microprocessors, and microcontrollers. Troubleshooting with an emulator. Students must design, build, and present to the class an approved project that uses a microcontroller. Laboratory exercises included. | ||
| TAUGHT: | Fall, Winter | ||
| CONTENT AND TOPICS: | Microprocessor architecture and operation: internal state machine, registers, and microcode. Microprocessor systems: diredt memory access, interrupts, and interfacing to memory and I/O (including programmable ports). Applications of state machines, ROM-controllers, microprocessors, and microcontrollers. Troubleshooting with an emulator. | ||
| GOALS AND OBJECTIVES: | 1. Know the theory of Microprocessor architecture and operation: internal state machine, registers, and microcode. 2. Demonstrate Microprocessor systems including dirct memory access, interrupts, and interfacing to memory and I/O (including programmable ports). 3. Use state machines, ROM-controllers, microprocessors, and micro-controllers. 4. Illustrate by example troubleshooting with an emulator. 5. Design, build, and present and approved project that uses micro-controller. |
||
| REQUIREMENTS: | Students must design, build, and present to the class an approved project that uses a microcontroller. |
