| DESCRIPTION: | This is an introductory course to the Child Development Professional Preschool Education and Early Childhood/Special Education programs; however, this course is also opened to any student with instructor's permission. The course will deal with historical background, theories, professional issues, and educational practices including "developmentally appropriate" and special education curriculum. | ||

| GOALS AND OBJECTIVES: | 1. Understand how learning occurs; how physical, social, emotional, moral, and cognitive development influence learning and instructional decisions. 2. Understand principles of effective classroom management and strategies that promote positive relationships, cooperation, and conflict resolution. 3. Realize need to use multiple tools strategies to assess individual student progress. 4. Understand relationships between school, family, community, had how those relationships foster student learning. 5. Know common concerns of parent/guardian of students with disorders and appropriate strategies to deal with them. 6. Understand elements of play and how plays assist children's learning. 7. Know characteristics of physical environment that must vary to support learning of children 0-2, 3-5, K-3rd. 8. Understand theory and research that reflects recommended performance practice for working with families of children 0-2, 3-5, and K-3rd. 9. Know NAEYC and DEC code of Ethics. 10. Know philosophy of inclusive education. 11. Understand theories, history, and model this procedure the basis for EC/SE. |
