Theoretical foundations of reading and writing processes; the application of theory to an individual's reading and writing; connections among reading, writing, and critical thinking. |
| GOALS AND OBJECTIVES: |
- Relate critical theories to reading and writing processes.
- Understand the interrelationships among reading, writing, speaking, listening, viewing, and language study.
- Integrate writing, reading, and critical thinking theories into the chosen Emphasis.
- Explore various reading and writing strategies.
- Examine how learners make meaning as they read and write.
- Synthesize various theories, using primary and secondary sources, and apply them to individual reading and writing processes.
- Explore formal and informal assessments for reading, writing, speaking, and listening.

| REQUIREMENTS: |
An exploratory journal, synthesis papers, a documented research paper, a portfolio of representative writing, and essay exams. Requires 30 pages of critical writing. MLA documentation. |

Completion of English 251, 314, and 325. |
