GENERAL EDUCATION: This course does not fulfill a General Education requirement.
DESCRIPTION: Focuses on the improvement of English skills for non-native speakers. Emphasizes oral communication.
TAUGHT: Winter, Summer 1st block, and Fall
CONTENT AND TOPICS: Listening; cross-cultural communication; vocabulary; grammar; and basic reading and writing skills in English.
GOALS AND OBJECTIVES:

  1. Develop oral language skills.
  2. Become acculturated.
  3. Develop reading skills.
  4. Develop writing skills.
REQUIREMENTS: Percent of grade: Class discussion participation
= 15%; assigned homework/classwork = 15%; three oral presentations = 30% 2 hours/week in the Reading Lab= 10%; five 1-2 page papers = 10%; tests and quizzes = 5%
video listening practice = 5%; vocabulary lists = 10%:
