| DESCRIPTION: | Introduction to the basic processes of sculpture: modeling, casting and assembling, with an emphasis on the human figure. | ||

| CONTENT AND TOPICS: | Develop sensitivity to design principles and stimulate creative problem solving skills pertaining to sculpture and to recognize how these skills have application beyond this class. To gain a greater understanding and appreciation of sculpture and the visual arts. Basic skills in four major areas of sculpture: modeling, assembling, carving and casting. Experiment in various approaches to visual arts: illusionistic, representational, abstract, non-objective. |

| GOALS AND OBJECTIVES: | -- Gain a broad, introductory experience in sculpture. -- Be introduced to a wide variety of philosophical approaches to art: represenetational, illustionistic, abstraction, non-representational. -- Learn principles and elements of design. |
