| DESCRIPTION: | An investigation of the transmission of heritable material in prokaryotes and eukaryotes. Topics include classical genetics (patterns of inheritance, linkage and chromosome mapping), molecular biology (DNA structure and function, gene expression, biotechnology), and population genetics. | ||
| TAUGHT: | Winter, Summer, Fall | ||
| CONTENT AND TOPICS: | Mapping genes in prokaryotes and eukaryotes, chromosome structure, sex determination, DNA replication and recombination, regulation of gene expression in prokaryotes and eukaryotes, DNA mutation and repair, cancer, quantitative genetics, recombinant DNA technology, and hominid evolution. | ||
| GOALS AND OBJECTIVES: | To further investigate the transmission of heritable traits and to provide meaningful lab experiences in genetics. | ||
