General Education

Associate in Arts and Sciences with a major in General Business (297)

The Business Management Department offers a late-entry “General Business” major for students who enter late into the business area and do not have time to fill all the requirements of the Business Management major. This major may also fulfill the needs of students who are undecided about a major and want to investigate Business Management as an option. In addition to the General Educationrequirement, students must complete 15 credit hours in Business-related classes including the Introduction to Business class (B 101), Professional Seminar classes (B 294) and one class in Accounting.

Because the General Business (297) major does not require the full pre-Business core preparation, students will usually need to take one or more additional semesters of pre-Business core classes at the college or university they transfer to in order to qualify for entry into the 4-year business school programs like the Marriott School of Management or other similar programs found at major universities.

Because this major is primarily designed for late-entry students into the business program, it is suggested that students who change their majors to General Business (297), meet with a business advisor as soon as possible to prepare in the best possible way for college transfer into a 4-year program. Students who are taking this major to investigate the business program should meet with a business management advisor to decide on the best classes to investigate based on personal interest.

*Note: Economics 111 & 112 in the Business core fills the General Education requirement for Social Science (six credits). CIS 140 in the Business core also fulfills the General Education requirement for Basic Skills (three credits).
