The Department of Physical Education is committed to serving a wide range of special interests for the general student-body as well as faculty and staff. The well equipped Hart Physical Education Building includes several gymnasiums, a weight room with the very latest in weight training and fitness equipment, an Olympic size pool, dance studio, and a regulation basketball arena seating approximately 4,500.

Course work has been designed to assist the undergraduate planning to transfer to a university to major in Physical Education, students who need to fill General Education requirements and all who desire to participate in physical activities leading to fitness. The health and fitness portion of the General Education program is offered jointly with the Health Science Department.

The Associate in Arts and Sciences major is designed primarily for those who will become Coaches or Physical Education instructors.

General Education Requirements

Students may complete the Health and Fitness Option of the GE requirement by taking PE 177 AND one other of the following PE lifetime sports classes:PE C 117, 123, 126, 128, 131, 133 or 195.

Required courses for PE majors include: PE*C 104, PE*C 177; PE*C 205; PE*C 230; HS 122, 130, BS 264, 265.

Note: Some of your required courses (BS 264, 265, HS 131 and PE 177) also fill GE requirements.

Chemistry: During the second semester of your sophomore year you may want to consider including a Chem 111 Prin of Chem, course. It is optional but would strengthen your science background.

Travel and Ski Fee: $200 (Fee varies according to transportation and lift pass)
Skiing for participants of varying abilities. Sections formed on the basis of ability, with instruction suited to varying skill levels in fundamentals of skiing. Instruction will be provided in three areas: alpine skiing, snowboarding, and mountaineering. The students furnish their ski equipment. (Permission to withdraw with refund restricted).

PE-C 205 Intramural Sports - Administration and Organizations 2

A study of the objectives, organization, and supervision of Intramural Sports. Students will assist in handling the Intramural Athletic program.

Rules, techniques, problems, and procedures in officiating football, basketball and other team and individual sports. (Fall only)
